BX returns from an awesome weekend at the Livonia Regional! Here are the results...
CHAIRMAN’S AWARD
“The District Chairman’s Award was created to keep the central focus of the FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION on FIRST’S goal of transforming our culture in ways that will inspire greater respect for science and technology, and to encourage more young people to appreciate the real life rewards and career opportunities in those fields.
The District Chairman’s Award honors the team that, in judges’ estimation, best represents a model for other teams to emulate, and which embodies the goals and purpose of FIRST. It is the most prestigious award presented at this District Competition.
The winner of this award will be invited to the Michigan FIRST Robotics Competition State Championship, where it will compete against the winners from all the other district events for one of three Chairman’s Awards, that will go on to the FIRST Championship.
And now, here’s what the judges have to say about this District Chairman’s Award team…
This team has been laying the foundation ties for becoming a leader in advancing the cause of FIRST for many years. Their programs are well thought out and executed in a very businesslike approach, including a targeted Business Plan. Their mentoring efforts include starting up a new FRC team this year and supporting others in need. Several of the team members have used their positive FIRST experiences in JFLL and FLL to develop several new JFLL all-girl teams. Their outreach efforts are well noted and appreciated by their community; so much that the community reciprocated by generating funds in a short timeframe when the team won a district event last year and needed financial assistance to attend the State Competition.
They generate excitement in their spirited support of other teams competing on the playing field. They INSPIRE the highest level of praise for their many efforts of gracious professionalism here and at other District events. For sure, their many unselfish acts in support of the spirit and principles of FIRST have kept them on the EXPRESS TRACK for this award.
The judges are pleased to present the District Chairman’s Award to Team #1023 – Bedford Express”
SAFETY AWARD
“The INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AWARD SPONSORED BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES celebrates the team that progresses beyond safety fundamentals by using innovative ways to eliminate or protect against hazards. The winning team consistently demonstrates excellence in safety performance that shines in the heat of competition.
This team has mentored many teams and given away mini-bots. They mentored elementary kids about safety and passed out MSDS sheets to teams that didn’t have copies. They distributed bowls of baking soda to neutralize leaking battery acid.
Congratulations Team 1023 – Bedford Express”
COOPERTITION AWARD
The Coopertition Award celebrates the team that best demonstrates the ability to help their opponents compete. The Coopertition Award is granted ot the team that earns the most Coopertition Bonus points during the competition. Congratulations Team #1023 – Bedford Express”
*Note – Coopertition is a tm word from FIRST meaning a combination of cooperation and competition. It is earned by loaning a mini-bot to another team and them successfully scoring points with it on the field. BX loaned their back up mini-bot to Team 3773 from Tecumseh High School. This was the team we mentored. We actually sustained our only loss in a match where we faced Tecumseh. During this match our mini-bot did not deploy and we lost this match when Tecumseh successfully launched our back up mini-bot scoring enough points to take the win. J
The FIRST PLACE championship trophy was also earned by BX!
Thanks to 2137 T.O.R.C and 3617 Cold Logic. We could not have done it without you!
*Note - After the quarter finals our fast minibot stopped working. For the semi final matches we had to switch to our slower but more reliable minibot. T.O.R.C. stepped up and got to the pole early every time to help win the minibot races. During quarter finals 3617 took a couple strong hits causing their robot controller to reboot. 3617 promptly found the loose power wire causing the problem and returned to the field to fulfill their roll as our stalwart defender. While approaching the minibot pole during our last semifinal match the gears to our rear motor bound up causing the robot to handle erratically. BX used its time out right before the finals to pull the rear motors of our mecanum system. We lost a lot of power and the ability to strafe but kept hanging tubes. Nothing less than solid teamwork won the finals as T.O.R.C again stepped up the scoring and Cold Logic put up a solid defense!
